Advocate

For R.E. my class and I My advocate I chose was Martin Luther King, a civil rights activist who brought about change for black people.  He was also famous for his “I have a Dream” speech in 1963. He is a hero to African – Americans and one of my heroes.

My Trip to the Cook Islands

In the weekends my dad, my sister and I went to the Cook Islands. when we got there my uncle was waiting for us outside. When we came out it was hot. My uncle drove us in his truck with me and Marii at the back on the trailer. My uncle drove us to the back of the St Mary’s Church where there were a lot of rooms and a beachhouse. We were going to stay at the beachhouse. We were greeted by my uncle and my grandma.  At night, my nephew and niece came and had pizza for dinner with us. After, we watched a movie and then went to sleep at 12:00 in the morning. The next day, we had Cook Islands doughnuts for breakfast. We went to CITC (Cook Islands Trade Centre) and saw someone getting arrested in front of us. It was scary because he stabbed someone before he ran from the police but was caught. Anyways, we went to CITC and got nails and came back. At about 4:00 my sister, my dad, my uncle and I went to to the beach and swam for an hour then kept on watching TV until 1:00 in the morning. On sunday we went to church, it was a short walk. after Mass, we had Mother’s Day lunch. They had roast pig, chicken and fish curry, with taro and raw fish. When evryone left we kept watching TV and then went around the Island. Monday was our last day. We were going to leave at 4:00. We packed evrything we had and went said goodbye to our grandma and uncle when they dropped us off at the airport. We arrived in NZ at 6:25 and was greeted by my mum and brother. We had KFC for dinner which I really missed. Going to Rarotonga was a highlight of 2023. I really loved my time there and made the most of my trip.

Bomb Gone

“ ALL HANDS ON DECK!”, someone yells, as I rush to the port side of the ship, struggling to find a spot to sit, facing starboard. I then hear the broadcast, “Two minutes till burst”. 60 seconds left I hear. My heart is racing. I feel nervous all over. The broadcast now orders us to close our eyes. Drops of sweat follow the crevices of my nose. 40, 30, 20, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, BOMB GONE! I cannot see the bomb but I can see the bones of my fingers. The heat rushes up to my back like a wave. Now the broadcast is counting up “1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15,… open eyes, goggles off, face the burst.” I see the bomb, like a mushroom sprouting, the sky is a blue glow, with the orange – reddish colours of pending destruction.

Trinity

For Our Religious Education we explained our image of the Trinity. There were a lot of different examples of the Holy Trinity. I described the Trinity as a car.

Georg Diary Entry

Her body was so cold. The man’s hands smeared with blood. I thought we could save Elizabeth. I was wrong. Her neck. I couldn’t take that scene out of my mind. In my mind, I wondered how many people out there in other towns in England were under rubble or pieces of Anderson Shelters. Words couldn’t describe my anger for Hitler. I don’t really know Elizabeth. She has been at my school, so I feel like I have lost something in my life. I could feel tears filling my eyes. They never come down. Looking back at the scene, I’ll never forget looking at the pale, bloody body of innocent little Elizabeth. I picture my life as a bunch of balloons. When something bad happens in my life, one of the balloons pops. Elizabeth is one of those balloons. The balloons of Papa and Mutti have already popped. My few balloons left consist of Aunt Miriam and others like Mrs Huntley. I walk past the perfectly intact green gate. Hitler knew what he was doing, he knew people would die. He just doesn’t care.

Making Clay Figure Pennies for Hitler

Room 8 is reading Pennies for Hitler by Jackie French. As part of our learning we had to choose a critical moment from different parts of his time in london. We split into 4 groups and chose our scene. Our group chose a part where the main character, Georg, a German – Jew escaping Germany to England, was staring at his favourite place in London, the Library, in flames, with bodies everywhere. We chose this scene because it showed how Georg lost something important in his life. After we chose it we then drew our scene on paper. After that we then made the chosen scene out of clay. It took a while, and it was hard to make it, but it was worth it. 15 minutes later, it was all finished. All our groups went around, looking at each others, and giving feedback. It was my first time with clay, and it was a very fun experience. Thank you to Miss George for letting us make it, and I will hope to make some more next time!

My Name is Daniel.

I am 12 years old and I am a Year 7 at Saint Patricks School and my teacher is Ms George. I have 6 siblings. My mum is Tongan and is a teacher at Glenbrae, and my dad is from the Cook Islands and is a Caretaker at Mcauley High School. My favourite sport is football and I play Fifa 23. I love playing the Cook Island Drums and I love watching the Premier League. My favourite food is my dad’s Butter Chicken. Tamaki Cluster Touch Tournament

Tamaki Cluster Touch Tournament

On the 2nd of November, Room 7 and Room 8 walked out of our school to represent our school in the Tamaki Cluster Touch Tournament. Most of the Tamaki Cluster Primary Schools were there, like Panmure Bridge and Tamaki Primary were there. All of our four teams were so excited. Our coach was my friend’s dad. Our first game started against Panmure District. We lost 4-0. Our coach trained us some more. Our second game was against Stonefields School. 9-0 to Stonefields. We were disappointed that we lost 2 in a row. Our coach said it was all right. Our next game was against the school that my mom teaches. Glenbrae. They beat us 6-0. We were starting to get more disappointed. Our last game was against Glen Innes. They beat us, 6-0. We had a fifth game for the bottom teams to face. It was Glenbrae. They barely beat us 4-1. We were not that sad that we scored a try. The Room 8 girls, however, made it but sadly lost in the finals. We were so happy. It was our best performance in 3 years. We went home happy and proud that we represented our school. Next time we will win!
